Ala. - The University of West Alabama football team is ranked No. 11 in the BennettRank national preseason Division II poll released Monday.
The Tigers, who finished 10th in the final BennettRank last season, is one of three Gulf South Conference teams to be ranked in the 2014 preseason poll. North Alabama is seventh and Delta State 25th.
According to BennettRank, the poll is different from traditional ranking systems that rely on committees of coaches and reporters. Unlike subjective ranking systems, each algorithm adjustment used by BennettRank makes an incremental, and permanent, improvement from the prior iteration. BennettRank Preseason Rankings rely upon past team, and conference, performance, incorporating historical data from the previous year.
Minnesota-Mankato is the top ranked team in the 2014 preseason rankings. Minnesota Duluth, St. Cloud State, Northwest Missouri State and Lenoir-Rhyne round out the top five.

The Tigers open the 2104 season on Sept. 6 in the 2014 Tiger Bowl at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
