Decatur, Mississippi East Central Community College broke ground Friday on the new synthetic turf that will be installed on the football field.
Installation of the turf will begin Monday morning with the hope of having the work complete in time for East Central's first home football game on September 11th. The turf will be laid by Enviro-Turf Services, who also did work on Meridian High School's field. The president of East Central says this is just the next step of many steps to improve the school.
"It will allow us to bring young men and young women into our institution. It will attract, no question about it, but ultimately it's about changing lives and it's about changing the lives of an individual," said Dr. Billy Stewart, president of East Central Community College. "While this field may be to some just a field, to me it represents students who will come here and who will leave changed because of their time at East Central."
Soccer lines will also be put on the field so the college's soccer teams can use the field.
