Stephen Bowers joined WTOK in June 2008 as a meteorologist and can be seen Monday through Friday on Newscenter 11’s Good Morning Meridian. He is also the station’s science and environment reporter. He came to WTOK from WCTV, WTOK’s sister station in Tallahassee, Florida.

A native of Pensacola, Stephen graduated from Pensacola Junior College before transferring to Florida State University to pursue a degree in meteorology. While at FSU, Stephen made regular appearances for three years on FSU Weather, a cable weather show produced by the students of the FSU Department of Meteorology. He then spent a year at WCTV as the fill-in weather anchor, weather producer, and internet science reporter, working along side Mike McCall, Ray Hawthorne, and Rob Nucatola.

His interest in meteorology grew at an early age because of two hurricanes that hit near Pensacola in 1995: Erin and Opal. Stephen has had the chance to help on and off air with severe weather and tropical events, and is excited to bring his experiences to East Mississippi and West Alabama.

Stephen grew up in Pensacola and made his television debut with his twin brother for his grandfather’s service station at the age of 3. Stephen graduated from Escambia
High School, the same high school Emmitt Smith graduated from. Stephen started learning American Sign Language and went on to complete the American Sign Language track at Florida State University. When not in front of the lights and cameras, Stephen enjoys music of all kinds especially old country and rock. Being from Pensacola you might think Stephen is a beach bum. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Stephen prefers the mountains for a vacation.
