Efforts are being made to further improve safety within the newly annexed part of Meridian. A grant has been approved to mount a warning siren at the new fire station in that area. Similar sirens are already positioned throughout the city to warn when severe weather is approaching.
"We have one at Northeast Park that actually is close to this one,' says Meridian Fire Chief Anthony Clayton. "So, between the one at Northeast Park and this one, we should have overlapping coverage."
Chief Clayton expects the new siren to be in place at fire station nine long before the end of this year.
