Lawn Company Theft

Meridian business owner, Fred Powe, is calling for arrests after more than half of his work equipment was stolen. Powe founded Southern Lawn Care five years ago. He says he has never had to deal with anything of this magnitude.

'Somebody stole some blowers, maybe some weed-eaters a couple of times, but never the entire trailer, never!'

Just days before Labor Day is when thieves made off with about 60% of Powe's equipment. This happened around 9:30 PM on August 28th. At the time, Powe had his work truck and trailer parked outside his house.

'I didn't hear anything; nobody heard anything. The neighbors didn't hear anything and a guy later on told me that he saw three or four guys around my truck. I always keep my equipment secure. Everything is locked or chained! What else can I do? Even with all that they still take it!'

Valued at about $22,000, Powe says the theft left him almost lifeless because his lawn service is his livelihood. He just returned back to work about a week ago and says that he can't afford another theft.

'No, I can't. I'll be out of business!'

Powe is now offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to arrests. He's asking anyone with information on the case to call the Meridian Police Department at (601) 485-1893.
