Messages to a young girl on Facebook are being blamed for a murder in Wayne County.

Investigators say the mother of the child was gunned down by the 20-year-old who allegedly sent the messages to her daughter.

The victim is identified as 41-year-old Belinda Walters. Her older daughter was also injured.

Officials say the shooting resulted from a confrontation involving the two families, who are neighbors. It happened around 3 a.m. Sunday in the Pleasant Grove Community, which is on the Wayne and Jones County line.

Forest Johnston is charged with murder in the case. His mother, Mary Johnston, is charged with aggravated assault.

Investigators say both suspects fired shots using separate guns.
