Some local young people are sponsoring a rally this weekend in an effort to curb the number of crimes involving youth in Meridian. The rally will be held Saturday, August 30th at Bonita Lakes Mall. Although it's being sponsored by the Young Democrats of Lauderdale County, organizers say the rally is a non-partisan event.
"We're going to be talking about what people can do to get involved at the rally," says Weston Lindeman, "but we just want people to come out, and listen, and rally with us, and raise awareness."
"This is not a rally about politics," says Renuka Srivastava. "It's a non-partisan event. Everyone is invited. It is crucial that our community comes together, and puts a stop to this."
Some of the guest speakers for the event include: Mayor Percy Bland, some members of the city council and a representative from the police department. The rally will be held tomorrow from 1 until 3 PM in the center court at Bonita Lakes Mall.
