Community Chorus Concert

Trinity Presbyterian Church
The Community Chorus and Cambiata Singers of Meridian will present a program of Broadway and American favorites, entitled, Younger Than Springtime, on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Trinity Presbyterian Church at 3:00pm.

Conducted by Dr. Bob Hermetz, the 52-voice ensemble will be accompanied by pianist Wayne McInnis along with soloists, Claire Hanschke, soprano, and Robert Evans, baritone.

The two ensembles will join voices of two selections, Morning Has Broken, by Mack Wilberg, and the traditional melody, Let There Be Peace on Earth. Cambiata Singers will present a medley of the Best Broadway, and a delightful setting of songs from Mary Poppins, including, Chim-Chim-Cheree, Feed The Birds, Step in Time and many others. The Community Chorus will present choral highlights of Rogers and Hammerstein's South Pacific and carousel, including such tunes as Bali Hai, Some Enchanted Evening, If I Loved You, and You'll Never Walk Alone. A Suite of American folk songs and sacred pieces will round out the program.

The Cambiata Singers were formed in 2007 and are composed of 16 members ranging in age from nine to eighteen. Director is Dr. Hermetz, assisted by Erin Rohr, and pianist Wayne McInnis. The Community Chorus Association of Meridian (CCAM) was formed in 1971 by Conductor Hermetz while teaching at Meridian Community College, leading to a continued legacy of significant choral offerings to the are for forty-four years up to the present time. The last presentation of the CCAM was the Magnificat by John Rutter at Trinity Presbyterian Church on November 9, 2014. The chorus rehearses at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesdays from 7-8:30pm. Cambiata Singers meet at Trinity Lutheran on Sundays from 2-3:30pm. Interested singers may contact Dr. Hermetz at thesingdoc@aol.com, or (601) 678-5477.

Jackson – The Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Foundation (MWFP) is sponsoring the Super Hunt Fishing Rodeo for youth with disabilities at Turcotte Education Center on Saturday, May 9. This event is open to disabled youth ages 6-17, and will begin at noon.

It will be an afternoon full of fun activities and fishing where kids can just be kids. Participants will be provided lunch and all the necessary fishing equipment upon arrival at Turcotte. Families are encouraged to bring coolers and lawn chairs.

Migratory Bird Celebration & Live Bird Programs on May 2, 2015
JACKSON—The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ Museum of Natural Science will celebrate International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. until 3p.m. IMBD celebrates one of the most important and spectacular events in the Americas: bird migration.

“Migrate to the Museum’s grounds and learn to speak bird, build a recycled hummingbird feeder, enjoy a guided nature walk, and measure your wingspan,” invites conservation educator Nicole Smith. This Scout-friendly event includes live bird programs, guided nature hikes, and other hands-on activities. Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi that attend will meet requirements toward their IMBD patch and Cub Scouts will meet requirements toward the Naturalist Badge.

JACKSON –Children 15 years and younger are invited to a youth fishing rodeo at the Airey Lake Recreation Area in the Desoto National Forest beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 2. The free event is hosted by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) and the U.S. Forest Service.

Airey Lake Recreation Area is located on City Road near Saucier. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, catfish bait, and stringers. However, a limit amount of fishing gear will be available.

The event is a good opportunity for young anglers to fish a lake that is well stocked with catfish which are typically easy to catch. Families are invited to come enjoy quality time together in a safe environment.

DREAM Out Loud: Youth Talent Showcase

Our DREAM Team and Board would like to invite you to attend in our one-of-a-kind fundraiser to showcase the metro area’s most talented youth in the vocal arts, creative writing, and visual arts. Deadline for talent entries has been extended to April 3rd for Vocal and April 12th for Visual Arts and Creative Writing. Ten talented Metro youth will then be chosen for our showcase that will be held on May 14th at Belhaven University, Center for the Arts at 7 p.m. Contestants selected will be showcased and can win up to $500.00. Entry rules and permission forms are attached.

During our event on May 14th, 2015 we will be giving two community awards. We are accepting nominations for two honorees: the Jeff Huff Community Spirit Award and the DREAM, Inc. Changing Lives Award. For both awards, we are looking for that person that goes above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of those around them. We would like to have nominations in by around April 3, 2015. The nomination form is attached.

DREAM Out Loud Award Categories and Criteria
The Jeff Huff Community Spirit Award- recognizes an individual either well known for community service or someone who is a less-known hero but whose selflessness makes a noticeable impact in the lives he or she touches. The Jeff Huff Community Spirit Award honors the person and their activities outside of his or her traditional workplace.
The DREAM, Inc. Changing Lives Award- honors a professional in a “helping” role who regularly gives above and beyond the expected. Known for commitment to professionalism, passion, and purpose (s)he makes a difference in the lives of children, youth or families, fighting addiction, or keeping our communities safe, healthy, and/or educated.
• Individuals residing in Hinds, Madison, Rankin, Scott, and Simpson County are eligible. Citizens should be at least 18 years of age.
• Nominations may be made with or without the knowledge of the nominee (please note on the form).
• Nominations for employees of DREAM, Self-nominations and anonymous recommendations will not be accepted.
• Space is provided to indicate the reason for your nomination. Up to three additional pages/attachments of supporting material may be included such as newspaper clippings or letters of support.
• The nominator may recommend individuals for both awards. Please use separate forms.
• Nominees will be selected on or around April 7. Winners will be announced at the DREAM Out Loud Charity Gala at the Belhaven University Center for the Arts on May 14.

DREAM Out Loud Premiere Youth Talent Showcase 2015

VOCAL ARTS: Audition media accepted through March 23, 2015 via DVD, flash drive, SD card and Facebook or YouTube link with parental permission. Email link AND completed contestant /permission form with parental signature to outloud@dreamincevent.org. All standard video files will be accepted. PLEASE READ VOCAL ARTS RULES HERE.
Audition/Pre-selection: Entries for all categories must be received in our offices prior to Tuesday March 24. Please mail your entry in plenty of time to be received by then. Postmarks will not be acknowledged. They must be received by the cut off date. EMAIL: received via e-mail no later than 11:59 pm March 23, 2015 or dropped off at our offices by 5:00pm March 23, 2015.
Preliminary winners who will compete for scholarship prizes during a LIVE talent show on Thursday, May 14 will be notified no later than April 1. Contestants may be asked to attend a second round of live auditions, to be announced.
VOCAL ARTS: Guidelines and Rules
 This is a family oriented performance; absolutely no foul language or suggestive lyrics, glorification of drugs or alcohol, or inappropriate costumes or choreography will be tolerated. Questionable acts may prevent you from participating in the finals. Song lyrics must be provided upon request. Appropriateness of each act is at the discretion of the judges.
 There will be a “dress rehearsal” for the final program. Acts that do not comply with the above rule will be disqualified and contestants on the “waiting list” will be allowed to compete.
 Please send an audition representative of the act you would perform if selected for the final. Final acts MUST be less than four minutes. Vocal acts may be individuals, bands, choirs, etc. If competing as a group, the scholarship funds may be split among the individuals or awarded to benefit the group (for costumes or travel to another event, for example).
 Talent in the 2015 show will be limited to vocal acts, creative writing and visual arts. Other performance arts (dancing, magic, etc) will be considered for next year, but will not be accepted in auditions this year.
 Please “be yourself” in your audition video. Your video does not have to be a professional recording, but should demonstrate your talents at their best.
 DREAM reserves the right to schedule live auditions or “call-backs” for the top scoring contestants from the first round of auditions to make final selections prior to the final event on May 14. DREAM may maintain a “runner’s up list” in the event contestants drop out or cannot participate on May 14.
 The final contestants will be posted on the DREAM, Inc. website for early voting and will have a page in the DREAM Out Loud program. Parent permission will be required for this and all additional DREAM Out Loud publicity (see permission form).
 If using recorded music, contestants in the finals must provide a burned cd or thumb drive with only the song the contestant is performing. The CD must be labeled with the contestants name and the name of the song.
 Acts with more than one performer should turn in all entry/permission forms in one email or envelope.

The USSSA Amateur Golf Tour is a division of USSSA (United States Sports Specialty Association ); a sport governing body of 13+ sports and non-profit organization founded in 1968.

Through this tour, Magnolia Sports Promotions, LLC has partnered with the Mississippi Children’s Museum www.mississippichildrensmuseum.com to provide a portion of the proceeds to their organization as they seek to support the desire, dedication, and determination of youth, both near and far. Nationally, a portion of the proceeds will be donated by USSSA Amateur Golf to Feed the Children, the tour’s national charity.

Tournaments are open to anyone 18 or older. The annual membership fee for joining the tour is $0 per person, while the registration fee for each tournament will range from $90 to $110. An additional benefit that this tour offers is that guests of the tournament participants can experience the tour event with a $2 spectator fee for each tournament.
