Subject: Antioch Southern Methodist Children's Ministry "Paying it Forward"

Monday December 21st, children from Antioch Southern Methodist Church in Collinsville, MS, had a hands on experience of learning about the meaning of Christmas, by being a servant and "Paying it Forward". After their recent Christmas program, children donated unwrapped gifts to be donated to local recipients. The children loaded up over 60 gifts and took them to the Pediatric wing of Anderson's Hospital. They were able to give gifts to two patients, a 3 year old and 7 year old. They also left quite a few toys for future patients. The children then shared more gifts with Aslane Missions. They enjoyed spreading the toys underneath the giving tree. A tree for those children who may not have been adopted by the Angel Tree or Wesley House. The final stop was to the James T. Champion Nursing home to serve others with their time by singing some carols with the residents. Emma McNeill, 4th grader at West Lauderdale Elementary, commented "We've been blessed as kids, so now we're being a blessing to others!" That's what it is all about, "Paying it Forward."

Children that attended the event ...
Josh Posey, Emma McNeill, Delaine Spears, James Ellis Spears, Savannah Raye Spears, Kayden Boutwell, Robert Rogers, and Miles Fulton.

Chaperones: Amanda Posey, Scarlett Spears, and Linda Morgan

JCJC music groups help Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College students in the Fine Arts Department performing groups, JC Voices and JC Jazz were thrilled with the response of the second annual toy drive in conjunction with their, “A Jingle Jazz Christmas” concert. The public donated hundreds of toys as admission to the holiday concert at JCJC. The evening of jazzy Christmas tunes was spectacular, only topped off by the number of donated toys from the audience.

“We are very happy with the response to the toy drive as part of a new JCJC tradition in the Fine Arts Department. The generosity of so many people attending the JCJC Christmas concert will help a lot of kids in the area have a merry Christmas. Our students said they enjoyed being able to give back to the community as they showcased their talents,” said Dr. Susan Smith, JCJC Fine Arts Department Chair.

The Angel Tree began in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1979 and provided a way for the local citizens to be personally involved in sharing with those less fortunate in their community. For more information, call the Fine Arts office at 601-477-4094 or follow JCJC Fine Arts on Facebook and Twitter.

MARINES TO KICK OFF TOYS FOR TOTS, NOVEMBER 5

U.S. Marines from Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One on board NAS Meridian will kick off their local Toys for Tots annual campaign on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Geoffrey store, next to Bonita Lakes Mall in Meridian.
Through the generosity of the local community, Marines collected
7,030 NEW toys last year and hope to exceed that number this year.
Toy donation boxes for NEW, UNWRAPPED toys will be set up in Meridian at Geoffrey's, both Wal-Mart locations, Sam's Club, Meridian Yamaha, The Radio People Station, the Marine Corps Recruiting Station, and H&R Block locations. Boxes are also at Wal-Mart in Newton.
U.S. Marines will be present at Meridian Wal-Mart locations, Geoffrey's, and Sam's Club on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. until Dec. 13 to assist those who wish to donate.
The primary goal of the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children.
In 1948, Walt Disney designed the Toys for Tots logo, which is used today. Disney also designed the first Toys for Tots poster used to promote the nationwide program. In 1995, the Secretary of Defense approved Toys for Tots as an official activity of the U.S. Marine Corps and an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve.
Over the past 62 years of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children.
More information about Toys for Tots can be found at www.toysfortots.org.
This year's Toys for Tots Coordinator is Sgt. Joseph Killian. He can be reached at 601-679-2407.
