Parents will receive valuable information that can be used to prepare their student for the reading fair.
The Reading Fair provides students an opportunity to share their favorite book through a storyboard
display.
Fall Break for Students

All MPSD students will be out of school for Fall Break.

4:30 p.m. ‐ Floats will line up at Central Office at 4:30 p.m.
5:30 p.m. – Parade Starts
The Homecoming King will be crowned at the end of the parade in front of WTOK.
Parade Route: Starts on 25th Avenue in front of MPSD Central Office, left on 8th Street, right on 23rd
Avenue, left on 5th Street, right on 22nd Avenue, and left on 9th Street ending at WTOK for pep rally and
crowing of MHS Homecoming King.
Crestwood Elementary School Behavior Bash
Friday, October 12 ‐ 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Students with no office referrals for the first nine weeks will take part in a Behavior Bash Thriller Dance
Party.

Illustrator and Artist Chuck Galey will work with all students during school day. Parents are invited to a
Family Night with the artist. This exciting event is funded, in part, through a MS Arts Commission Mini
Grant.
Ross Collins Career and Technical Center ASVAB Test

Military personnel will administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) to students
who are interested in a military career.

for creating a Reading Fair project, as well as display sample projects.

MHS Cheerleaders and football players will lead Poplar Springs in cheering on our Wildcats. The MHS
students will encourage students to exhibit Panda Power: Pride, Ownership, Work, Effort and Respect.
Red Ribbon Week

Students and staff will focus on the importance of being drug free.
Carver Middle School Family Literacy Night
Monday, October 22 ‐5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Parents and students are encouraged to attend this monthly gathering where the Carver staff will share
information on what students are learning in the classroom. Parents and students will participate in fun
activities and refreshments will be served.

The STAR program was created to reward students for academic achievement and good behavior. The
STAR program encourages students to focus on the areas of safety, trustworthiness, academics, and
responsibility. Four STAR students have A's and B's, no office referrals, and no un‐excused absences.
Poplar Springs Elementary STAR School Celebration Picnic
Wednesday, October 24 ‐ Lunch
All students will participate in the STAR school celebration picnic during their designated lunch period.
The cafeteria staff will grill hamburgers for students and homeroom parents will provide a special STAR
snack for each class. Weather permitting students will picnic outside.

Carver Middle School Science Fair

Students will share their science fair projects with parents and members of the community. Prizes will
be awarded. Parents are invited to view the projects between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The STAR program was created to reward students for academic achievement and good behavior. The
STAR program encourages students to focus on the areas of safety, trustworthiness, academics, and
responsibility. Three STAR students have A's, B's and C's, up to 1 office referral, and no unexcused
absences.
Poplar Springs Elementary Fourth Grade Mississippi Program – MS: My Home
Thursday, October 25 ‐ 10:30 am
Poplar Springs Auditorium
Fourth grade students will share what they have learned about our home, Mississippi, through their
Mississippi Studies class using music, drama, dance and visual art.
Northwest Middle School 5 STAR Downtown Tour and Lunch
Friday, October 26 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Downtown Meridian
The STAR program was created to reward students for academic achievement and good behavior. The
STAR program encourages students to focus on the areas of safety, trustworthiness, academics, and
responsibility. Five STAR students have all A's, no unexcused absences, and no office referrals. These
students will be treated to ride on the trolley from Northwest to Downtown Meridian for a tour of City
Hall, visit with the Mayor, tour of the Meridian Museum of Art, and a special lunch.

Poplar Springs Elementary Fall Festival
Saturday, October 27 ‐ 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The community is invited to the annual PSE‐PTA Fall Festival held from 10 am‐2 pm on the campus of
Poplar Springs Elementary. The festival features food, games, prizes, haunted house, and fun for the
entire family. This is a fundraising event for PTA and all proceeds are benefit students and school.
Poplar Springs Elementary Reading Fair (Pre‐K through 2nd Grades/Family)
Tuesday, October 30
Poplar Springs Cafeteria
Students in Pre‐K through 2nd grades and family category entries will display Reading Fair projects
which are judged by community judges. Winners advance to the MPSD Reading Fair later in the school
year.

Meridian Main Street Candy Crawl
Tuesday, October 30 – 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The Meridian Main Street Association will host the annual Candy Crawl in Downtown Meridian. You will
not want to miss this exciting event! It will include a performance by the MHS Band and cheerleaders,
geography scavenger hunt, musical instrument petting zoo, talent contest, school fundraisers, costume
contest, tons of hands‐on activities, and much more.
Crestwood Elementary School Accelerated Reader Celebration
Wednesday, October 31 ‐ 1:15 to 2:15 p.m.
Students that have met their monthly Accelerated Reader (AR) goal will be treated to a Pumpkin Party.
