2007 Ends In Moderate Drought

2007 will go down in the records as another dry year for East Mississippi and West Alabama. Despite some decent rainfall at times in the month of December, the U.S. Drought Monitor places this geographical area under stage 1 moderate drought conditions at the end of the year.

Officially Meridian's Key Field will end the year at 23.26" below normal on rainfall. The year only saw 35.39" of precipitation measured. A normal year for Meridian is 58.65" of precipitation.

This will mark the second consecutive year that East Mississippi and West Alabama end the year on dry notes. 2006 ended with a rain deficit of 15.96" of precipitation. The last two years combined shows a rain deficit of 39.22" on the records at Key Field.
