The Meridian area has the possibility of a significant severe weather event into Tuesday.
Meridian homeland security officials spent Monday afternoon on a conference call with state weather and emergency officials, getting updated on exactly what the threat will be. They say they will be ready if and when severe weather hits.
"A lot of conditions could change between now and then," said Bunky Partridge, director of Meridian Homeland Security. "We are prepared to open our emergency operations center, and if the potential gets bad enough, we will use our code red system. "
Code Red is the city's new emergency alert system that allows people to be alerted by telephone if an emergency like severe weather exists. You may sign up for it at the city's Web site, www.meridianms.org.
