Some area schools took precautions to protect students when severe storms came through central and east Mississippi Tuesday afternoon.
Among them was Southeast Lauderdale Attendance Center. Students were instructed to go into inner hallways.
Principal Dwane Taylor and his staff said they wanted to take no chances.
Taylor said staff monitored the weather on television, radio and the Internet earlier Tuesday, because the potential for bad weather was present.
"This is just a precautionary thing," said Taylor Tuesday afternoon.
The storm system moved fairly quickly to the northeast, across central and eastern Mississippi and into west Alabama.
