Flood Advisory For West Alabama

Flood advisories have been issued until 9:15 pm for Greene, Hale, Marengo, and Sumter counties in west Alabama. Here is the information from the National Weather Service.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS ISSUED AN

* URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...
SOUTHWESTERN PERRY COUNTY IN CENTRAL ALABAMA...
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF UNIONTOWN...
WEST CENTRAL DALLAS COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL ALABAMA...
NORTHERN MARENGO COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST ALABAMA...
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF DEMOPOLIS...
EXTREME SOUTHEASTERN GREENE COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA...
SOUTHWESTERN HALE COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA...
SOUTHERN SUMTER COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA...
THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF...YORK...CUBA...

* UNTIL 915 PM CDT

* AT 608 PM CDT AN AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL EXTENDED EASTWARD FROM THE MISSISSIPPI STATE LINE IN SUMTER COUNTY...EASTWARD ROUGHLY ALONG AND EITHER SIDE OF U S HIGHWAY 80 INTO WESTERN DALLAS COUNTY. WAVES OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL DRIFT FROM WEST TO EAST ALONG THIS AREA...AS THE LINE GRADUALLY
SINKS TO THE SOUTH. A FEW AREAS MAY RECEIVE 2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN OR MORE IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME...WHICH WILL CAUSE FLOODING IN LOW SPOTS AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...AND PONDING OF WATER ON COUNTRY ROADS AND FARMLAND ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED OR PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.
