WINFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Floodwaters have been rising in Foley, Missouri, as the Mississippi River continues to crest. Part of the town was already swamped.
Elsewhere in Missouri, National Guard soldiers have been patrolling levees looking for soft spots. Federal engineers are making no guarantees that a levee near Winfield won't be breached. Not far from the Iowa state line, the river was down after cresting, however the river is not expected to crest in some stretches until Thursday or Friday.
In Illinois, emergency management officials say National Guard soldiers, prison inmates and others piled sandbags on a levee near Quincy as the river crested Monday and started to recede.
