MIAMI (AP) -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger remains at odds with some of his fellow Republicans over offshore drilling.
He says anyone who tells you offshore drilling will bring down gas prices immediately, or anytime soon, is "blowing smoke."
John McCain supports that drilling.
At an environmental summit in Florida, Schwarzenegger said finding new ways to feed the nation's oil addiction is not the answer. He notes that the U.S. is behind such countries as Germany, Denmark, and Brazil in using alternative and renewable energy. In the United States, says Schwarzenegger, "our domestic energy policy is all over the place."
He's urging people not to wait for government to act. Schwarzenegger says Americans can help reduce our use of oil by tuning their engines or buying hybrid cars.
