A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of West Alabama until 8 pm CDT.
The Alabama counties in the WTOK Viewing Area include Sumter, Marengo, Choctaw, Clarke, Pickens, Greene, and Hale.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms develop within the watch area. These severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing hail up to an inch-and-a-half in diameter as well as 70 mph winds. Wind of this magnitude can produce damage similar to that of tornadoes.
If severe weather threatens seek shelter in a basement or in an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or in a storm shelter.
Stay with WTOK.com and Newscenter 11 for the latest on severe weather conditions.
