The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for much of west central Alabama including part of the WTOK-TV Viewing Area.
This Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 7 am until midnight Friday for the following counties in Alabama: Sumter, Marengo, Greene, Hale, and Pickens. This includes the towns and cities of Livingston, Demopolis, Linden, Greensboro, Dixons Mills, Sweet Water, Gainesville, and Aliceville.
The ground is saturated because of heavy rainfall over the past week or so. While the major rivers are well below flood stage, some of the small streams and tributaries are filling quickly. More rainfall today and tonight is raising the risk for flash flooding.
The rain is expected to last throughout the weekend and into next week. The Flash Flood Watch expires Friday night at midnight, but more rain over the coming days could mean more flash flooding.
Stay with WTOK.com and Newscenter 11 for the latest weather conditions throughout the weekend.
