City Evaluating Drainage System

It took just thirty minutes for three inches of rain last month to flood streets in downtown Meridian.
With more rain in the forecast, efforts are underway to stop this from happening again.
According to Meridian Public Works Director Monty Jackson, the problem in September was the large amount of rain that fell, in a short amount of time.
"If it's over several days, it shouldn't be a flooding problem," said Jackson. "It has time to run off. The events that it doesn't have time to run off are the ones where it comes so quick that the pipes can't handle the volume that's there."
To further address concerns about flooding, Jackson says city workers have been looking to see if there are any problems with pipes.
"We've looked into the pipes to make sure that they are stopped up. So, we've try to identify any obvious problems that are obvious in the system that we have and then we'll be evaluating the system to see if there's any upgrades we can do that will improve the capacity that we need," Jackson said.
Jackson says completely resolving the problem will take some time.
"Because one thing, it takes a lot of money to do," said Jackson. "It just takes a lot of time to identify the pipes and to go through the process to calculate and determine what is actually needed for different events."

if possible think they would scrap the 3ft. but because of the old mayor and all that was done to do so would land up with lawsuit's up the butt.. and make the Marion Vs. Meridian case look like nothing....
Scrap the 3 foot Hotel and use the money for drainage, paving, and other infastructure repairs. Those sandbags around the "hotel" are so inviting. However, a sandbag would be more attractive with the city logo.
do as they do in NYC.. run a robot in the pipe system will give you cheap and effective way to find the troubles and fix them....
