Lauderdale County supervisors plan to vote on issuing another burn ban at their next meeting on Monday. The request was made Thursday by the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
Officials say the lack of rain over the last several weeks has compounded an already dry situation.
"We want to go ahead and get it implemented," said Greg Chatham of the Mississippi Forestry Commission. "So instead of waiting for something to blow up, we can try to prevent it from happening."
The Meridian Fire Department decided last week to ban outdoor burning. It will not issue any more burn permits until the area gets significant rainfall.
