Apartment Fire Affects Eight Families

At least eight families were left homeless due to a fire overnight at Lake Ridge Apartments in Livingston.

According to authorities they received the call around 12:50 a.m. Wednesday but they say things actually started around 1:30 a.m. That's when they believe lightning struck a corner bedroom.

Officials say they believe the fire smoldered in the attic for several hours before flames were seen later.

The Red Cross out of Tuscaloosa is offering assistance to those in need. However, they do say that they do need extra help and that's why they're asking for help from you the public in terms of donations.

The Red Cross says it mainly needs monetary donations so they can give money to the victims so they can go to stores to buy what they need themselves. Call 205-758-3608 if you can help.

Meanwhile, investigators say the good thing is that no one was hurt. This is something which they are calling nothing short of a miracle.
