April 15th marks two years since a series of tornadoes devastated several counties in our area.
There was a scary looking sky in Kemper County even after the tornado struck the area two years ago. Residents we talked to at the time said they couldn't believe their eyes.
"I couldn't blink my eyes to run," one man said after seeing the twister.
The Kemper County storm covered roads with trees and power lines. Workers had their hands full. Unfortunately, the county was hit by another tornado on April 27th of that month and then again this past week.
On April 15th, 2011, many other areas were faced with the same devastation. In Choctaw County, homes were destroyed on the inside and outside. As far as trees in the community, hardly anything was left of many of them. One man said if he hadn't been awake, he would not have survived. In Geiger, brick structures just crumbled to the ground. Even churches were not spared.
"It's a hurt feeling," one woman said at the time.
People living in Clarke County were forced to start cleaning up before the storm system completely moved out of the area since heavy rain continued to fall even after the tornado passed.
April 15th, 2011 is a day stuck in the minds of many.
