Friday Weather Discussion

The axis of a mid-to-upper level low pressure wave has passed us. Last night's clouds have moved well east of us, and high pressure will ridge into our area from the west, bringing a weekend of sun along with continued low humidity that will mean fast and quick temperature changes between the early mornings and the afternoons. Northerly wind flow from a region with dew point temperatures in the 20's points to our dew point temps falling. That would suggest temps tonight cooling into the upper 20's and lower 30's across East Mississippi and West Alabama. That's where we start our Saturday. The sun will be the only source for warmth, and it will bring temperatures back into the 60's for our Saturday afternoon. For Sunday, the ridge really builds into our area from the west and the wind will begin adjusting to the ridge. A southwesterly wind aloft will help to warm the column of the atmosphere a bit so that we can at least warm a little more on Sunday and Monday. At the ground, surface high pressure starts the flow of slightly more humid air into the area. Increasing humidity and warming temperatures, especially noticeable in the mornings, will be the trend through Tuesday. In the past few days, models have hinted at some rain with a cold front on Tuesday. As time goes on, the models suggest the moisture return will not be sufficient to support rain with Tuesday's cold front. In other words, the humidity will not likely be high enough for rain, though we should at least notice an increase in cloud cover on Tuesday. The clouds will retreat on Wednesday as high pressure takes its place behind that cold front. Temperatures will also take another downward swing Wednesday and Thursday.
