January started off extremely wet as 14 of the first 17 days produced measurable rainfall at Key Field. January was actually a wet month with 9.76" of rain for the month, up almost 5" from what we normally get. In fact, 4 days of the month saw rainfall amounts in excess of 1". January also had just about every type of precipitation. We had snow on the 17th (everyone remembers that I'm sure), rain for most of the month, and a few thunderstorms thrown in for good measure.
For being January, our mornings were not too cold. The coldest morning recorded at Key Field was 27 degrees. Normally, our coldest morning in the month of 18 degrees, so we were a little warmer than normal. We averaged a morning low of 40 degrees, up 7 degrees from our normal low of 33. We spent 10 mornings with lows below freezing.
As warm as our lows were, our highs were actually fairly normal. Outside of our warmest day of 78 degrees on the 29th, we average for the month a high temperature of 60 degrees, barely up from our average of 57. No days had a high temperature below freezing, which is normal for the month.
