Monday 1/21 Forecast Discussion

Posted: Mon 3:45 PM, Jan 21, 2013

The big weather story across the country today is the bitter cold and snow in the Northern part of the Midwest. There have been at least three pileups on interstates associated with heavy snow squalls. The temperature in International Falls, Minnesota this morning was -22 and the wind chill was -44! That cold air is headed our way, but we will only get a very small taste of it tonight and tomorrow. A cold front ahead of that brutally cold air crossed over the viewing area today, bringing some clouds with it, and will drop overnight lows into the 20s. Tomorrow we will struggle to make it much past 50 even though the sun will be out, and tomorrow night also looks chilly as well. Temperatures moderate back to where they should be for this time of year Wednesday and Thursday, but a disturbance will dive down from Canada through the Plains late in the week, and that will bring us a pretty good chance at some showers during the day on Friday. It will pass very quickly, and the weekend looks like it will be very nice and seasonable.
