Monday Evening Weather Discussion

Our Thanksgiving week brings temperatures that are near their seasonable averages along with overall dry conditions. Monday afternoon, we have a little of this and that all across the country. To start, an area of low pressure is spiraling off the coast of North Carolina. High pressure to its northwest will protect the coast of New England and that system will wind down over the Atlantic Ocean. That high pressure has kept us pretty chilly, but it has kept us free of any rain-producing clouds for the better part of the last week. A weak low pressure wave in the middle and upper atmosphere over the Plains will amplify as a ridge to its west amplifies in response to an upper level jet streak punching into its west side. Another big area of low pressure is bringing rain to the Pacific Northwest. The low pressure wave over the Plains will bring clouds and the potential for a stray shower for our Tuesday, but I strongly suspect nearly all of us will stay dry. High pressure builds Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures could come down a bit on the eastern side of the high pressure, but the cool down likely will not be drastic. This evening's west coast trough will dig into the Deep South on Friday, but as is the case with our Tuesday system the moisture may not be abundant enough in the atmosphere to support rain.
