Monday Evening Weather Discussion

An expansive low pressure wave in the northern Rockies extends southward to northern Mexico. The southern part of the system has initiated low pressure development at the surface over eastern Texas. Surface pressure tendency data suggests this developing low pressure over Texas will move over Mississippi and Alabama on Tuesday. Deep moisture return up the eastern side of the low pressure circulation will mean widespread rain. The warmer air flowing into our area combined with a mid-level pocket of cold air may generate just enough instability to support a few thunderstorms, but the instability is limited and appears to be mainly elevated above the ground. That suggests that severe weather will not be an issue. If the instability is higher than forecasts indicate, an isolated severe thunderstorm may be possible. As far as timing is concerned, some models suggest the rain will end before sunrise Tuesday and colder air will overtake the area during the day. Other forecasts indicate the rain will end closer to midday Tuesday. Of course, the farther west you are the earlier the rain will end. It will begin ending in our western areas (Louisville to Philadelphia to Lake and Newton to Bay Springs) around 5 AM. The rain will end around 7 AM for areas right along the state line (including Meridian, DeKalb, Macon, Quitman, York, Cuba, and Lisman), and then by 10 AM all of our area should be clear of rain aside from any leftover stray showers. Clouds likely will linger throughout the day as colder air flows from the north and into our area. Highs close to 60 likely will occur early in the morning and temperatures will cool throughout the day. High pressure will keep things quiet for us through Thursday. On Friday the high's center moves east of us, and temperatures will begin warming. Clouds and a chance for rain will return Friday and stick around through until Saturday.
