Monday, January 7th Forecast Discussion

Posted: Mon 3:48 PM, Jan 07, 2013

After having rain to welcome in 2013, the last couple days of full sunshine have been a nice change. The sunshine, however, is about to disappear for a while as our weather becomes more active. The crystal clear blue skies will begin to disappear overnight as high clouds build in. Those clouds will gradually get lower and thicker through our Tuesday as a warm front pushes northward. Right now, rain is not expected on Tuesday, but Wednesday will bring rain as the front lifts northward. Temperatures behind the front will spike into the 70s (yes, 70s, in January, welcome to Mississippi and Alabama)!

The cold front itself will arrive on Thursday, and it will bring the threat for more rain and potentially severe weather. Right now, the severe weather threat is the question mark. We will have plenty of warm air and moisture in place for severe weather to happen, but we may not have the upper level support to get storms to form. So for now, just prepare for some severe weather and stay with Jeff and I as we keep you updated.

Behind this front, temperatures will remain in the 70s through the weekend until our next cold front arrives on Sunday. This will drop temperatures and return rain chances.

Looking beyond the 7 day, we could be in store for a big cool down for the middle of next week, but we'll keep you posted.
