Monday Weather Discussion

A cold front pivoting around low pressure centered over southern Missouri is generating widespread cloud cover and a broken rain shield over much of Mississippi and Alabama. Much of our area has seen periods of mostly light rain, and the off-and-on rain will likely continue throughout the evening. The rain will exit our area by sunrise Tuesday, but many of the clouds will linger throughout a good portion of the day. The clouds will begin clearing Tuesday afternoon as high pressure expands and builds into the Deep South. While the high is centered west of us, cold air will surge southward down the high's eastern flank. The high's center will slide to our east on Friday, and temperatures will be noticeably warmer beginning Friday and continuing through next weekend. Low pressure will develop in the Rockies and move into the Eastern Colorado Plains by Saturday. That low pressure will traverse the Plains during the weekend and will mean some rain for us on Monday as the cold front associated with that low pressure moves through our area. Behind that cold front will be... yes, more cold air. The ups and downs with the fall weather roller coaster continue.
