Saturday 2/16 Forecast Discussion

Posted: Sat 5:47 PM, Feb 16, 2013

Today was one of the coldest afternoons we've had in a while, with most of us not making it out of the 40s. There were several light snow showers over North Mississippi and North and Central Alabama. They were mainly just flurries, and there was no accumulation, but it still would have been nice to see around here. Tonight will be the coldest night in about 6 weeks, as we drop into the mid 20s. Some of us could even fall into the low 20s before we wake up tomorrow morning. Tomorrow will be about 10 degrees warmer than today and should be pretty nice. A disturbance just coming onshore in the Pacific Northwest will move over the Central and Midwest portions of the country, and should spark off some showers Monday afternoon over East Texas. Those will move over us Monday night. We could see a thunderstorm Monday night as well, but no severe weather is expected. Unfortunately, severe weather is looking likely on Thursday night as a powerful storm system will move onshore in the Northwestern part of the country and move down the West Coast. This storm system looks very similar to the one that brought tornadoes and severe thunderstorms to the state last Sunday, so it will need to be watched. We are still about 6 days out, so anything could happen.
