High pressure centered over the Deep South is starting to make some slow progress to our east. A southerly wind up the western side of the high pressure's circulation will try to warm us tomorrow, and while temperatures will be warmer than today the clouds will still prevent the warming effects of the sun. Temperatures will only reach into the lower 50's, and even that may be a bit of a struggle. Rain will move in with a developing storm system overnight Monday and into Tuesday morning, but most models suggest the rain will hold off in our area until around 3 AM Tuesday. That means midnight New Years fireworks should have the go-ahead. Much of Tuesday likely will be soggy, and some of the rain could linger into early Wednesday morning. High pressure will build in from the west, but a low pressure wave may work northeastward off the Gulf around the periphery of the high. It could be that some of our southern areas, especially along and south of Highway 80, could see some rain from this system late Wednesday and especially Thursday. The high pressure will intensify to push away that low pressure wave and push another round of deep chill into our area Friday and over the weekend.
