High pressure will be the dominant weather feature for our area this week. The high pressure is centered east of our area, so our wind is mainly southerly within the clockwise wind flow of the high pressure. A southerly wind will keep our humidity high, but with the high pressure in place air will sink except in the lowest -- and hottest -- layers of the atmosphere. Those lowest layers of the atmosphere will be marked with rising air due to the intense heating, which will mean scattered fair weather cumulus clouds and patchy fog just before sunrise for much of the week. Unfortunately, because the air is sinking aloft temperatures at the ground will need to warm to about 115 degrees to produce enough heat enduced lift for showers to form. That said, the mere chance for rain is less than 10% through Wednesday, and rain is unlikely until the high pressure ridge relaxes on Thursday and Friday. Showers will be allowed to develop, but there's little other than intense heating to help generate the thunderstorms even at that point. The high pressure will tighten its grip in time for the weekend, so the rain will back off in coverage once again and temperatures could warm even more on Saturday and Sunday.
In the tropics... There is a burst of showers and thunderstorms near the east end of Hispaniola in the northern Caribbean Sea. The convection is the result of a tropical wave's interaction with an upper level trough of low pressure. The upper level low pressure trough is generating quite a bit of wind shear, so this system is currently disorganized. The shear could relax by Tuesday evening, and if the system can hold together it may need to be monitored. The tropics are otherwise quiet for now.
