Thursday, March 28 Forecast Discussion

High pressure has allowed us to see plentiful sunshine the last couple days and to start our warm up from the cold start to the week. Now that high pressure is off to our south, we will begin to tap into the warmer air to our southwest in Texas as soon as tomorrow when our highs climb into the lower and middle 70s.

With the warm up comes increasing clouds ahead of our next system that will arrive late Saturday into Sunday. The question with this first front is where it stalls. If it makes it to Highway 82 (the southernmost point it will), then we will see more rain showers and storms late Saturday. If it stays further north (especially back in the Delta, the northernmost point), then we could escape Saturday without a drop. Either way, rain will stay away until the afternoon and evening hours.

Front number two arrives on Sunday, pushing the first front through the area and giving us the chance for numerous rain showers. This front will also stall, either over us or just to our south, so it will keep rain chances in the forecast through Monday and Tuesday as it is slow to depart.

We may be able to catch a break from the rain on Wednesday and Thursday, but a couple of upper level systems will swing by and may be enough to squeeze out a shower or two each day. Right now, it looks like rain chances will end completely next Thursday or Friday when a stronger upper level system works through.

As far as temperatures are concerned, we will be in the 70s Friday and remain there until Tuesday, when some cooler air arrives behind front two. Highs will drop into the 60s through the later portion of next week.

If you do have any Easter outdoor plans, Friday is the best day with Saturday looking dry for most of it (especially the further south of I-20 you are). Sunday should not be a washout, but rain showers and storms will be around for most of the day.
