Wednesday Evening Weather Discussion

Following the passage of a cold front through our area, high pressure is building into the Deep South from the Plains. East of the high pressure's center and within its envelope of clockwise wind flow is a northerly wind that will bring a slight chill into East Mississippi and West Alabama tonight and tomorrow morning. The sky will be clear beneath that high pressure and, along with light winds, will aid in the cooling process overnight. That high pressure will slide quickly eastward and its center will be north of us tomorrow, which means the wind flow is from the east. A wind from the east is not typically an incredibly warm wind, but the abundant sun beneath the high pressure cell will help to warm us to near 80. By tomorrow night, the wind continues shifting in response to the migrating high pressure and our wind flow will be from the south. This southerly wind shift will mark the beginning of a warming trend that will continue into the weekend. A southerly wind also blows more humidity northward from the Gulf of Mexico. Higher humidity will mean more clouds for us, not to mention the air will feel a bit heavier. A warm wind along with warm sun shining between the clouds will warm temperatures into the middle and high 80's by this weekend. Higher moisture content suggests the next cold front, which will move through Monday, could pack a little bit of rain for at least some of us. The system that is set to move through our area on Monday appears to be poised to launch a severe weather outbreak over the Plains this weekend. This system does not appear to bring that severe weather threat to our area next week, but it is certainly something we will be monitoring between now and then.
