Wednesday Evening Weather Discussion

Lift in the atmosphere associated with a weak low pressure wave brought considerable cloud cover to Mississippi and Alabama Tuesday night and throughout the day Wednesday. Once that low pressure wave axis passed, the clouds thinned out and the sun broke out from behind the clouds. The sun tried to warm us up, but the slight cool breeze held temperatures back in the upper 50's and lower 60's. Thursday finds us between any weather players with a high pressure ridge atop our area. That should set us up for an overall sunny day. Temperatures will be only slightly warmer. A buckle in the jet stream sends another low pressure wave through our area Friday. While clouds will probably be present, the deeper layer of humid air necessary for rain does not appear to be present. That means we stay dry on Friday, and limited warming since the sun will shine through the clouds. The weak surface cold front will slow the warmup, but even still warm sunshine will help to boost temperatures into the middle 60's for the weekend. High pressure ridging will build into the area Saturday, so the weekend is shaping up to be a sunny one. The high pressure ridge weakens a bit in the middle of the atmosphere, but high pressure at the ground will slide east of us and start to increase lower-level humidity. The result of that will be a few more clouds for Monday along with slightly warmer temperatures. The next low pressure and cold front heads our way late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Depending on how quickly the lower level moisture builds, that system could mean some rain for us. The atmospheric temperature structure does not appear to be favorable for thunder, much less severe weather. We will monitor for changes, but for now severe weather appears unlikely.
