Wednesday, March 13 Forecast Discussion

As we bottom out today with our coldest high for the next 7 days, we will bottom our in terms of our lows tonight as we drop down into the upper 20s. Dew points this afternoon are already in the teens, signaling the cool and dry air is firmly in place, which as also led to Red Flag Warnings for portions of our Alabama counties for this afternoon and tomorrow.

High pressure starts moving in aloft tomorrow, which starts our big warm up into the weekend. We will only return to the low 60s tomorrow but reach the 70s for Friday into next week. In fact, this weekend may see our first 80 degree reading, and it could happen Saturday, Sunday, and/or Monday! I think the best chance to reach 80 will be Monday, especially if the rain does not arrive until late in the day.

Rain chances are backing off a bit on Monday as our approaching cold front will stall as it gets embedded in the west-east upper flow aloft. This means it will take its time in getting here on Monday, so the bulk of the rain now looks to arrives late Monday into Tuesday. Rain could potentially linger into Wednesday of next week, the first day of Spring, with this system or one right behind it.
