Things have not changed much in weather. As far as our forecast goes, hot and dry is still the favored pattern for the next week or so. Warm high pressure is sitting on top of our area and stacks high into the atmosphere. It may weaken on Friday as an upper trough swings by to our north and tries to send a weak cold front through our area, but the high will intensify and overtake our area again this weekend. That upper trough and its cold front may be marked by a few more clouds, but the atmosphere's moisture content will likely stay low enough that no one sees any rain. Even still, there is a very small possibility -- probably less than 10% -- that a rogue thunderstorm could develop Friday afternoon. The cold front doesn't have much cool air behind it. In fact the warm high pressure will expand and connect to another high pressure area over Texas. This keeps us dry in the long range, but this hot high pressure also keeps some potential tropical trouble away from us this weekend.
In the tropics... Tropical Storm Chris continues churning in the North Atlantic and is moving away from land. Some slight strengthening took place today, but the storm will weaken as it moves into cooler waters. A tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea that we have been watching much of this week is spreading clouds and rain over Central and South Florida and Cuba. This system is disorganized, but computer models suggest the potential for the development of low pressure that could become a tropical cyclone by this weekend. The National Hurricane Center gives it a low probability for development. We will continue to monitor this system and bring you updates.
