Tropical Storm Lee Update

Updated: Mon 5:51 PM, Sep 05, 2011

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency says it has received reports of damaged homes and flooded roads from Tropical Storm Lee, but no injuries have been reported.

Heavy rain bands with embedded tornadoes will remain a threat as the system slowly makes its way through the state.

MEMA Director Mike Womack is asking residents to remain prepared, even as Lee weakens.

“Parts of our state are going to continue to see tremendous amounts of rain for the next few days,” said Womack. “We cannot let our guard down as significant inland flooding is still a threat to many areas.”

The following counties are reporting damage:

Hancock: Several flooded roads. There is one shelter open in the Kiln community.

Harrison: Several flooded roads, homes damaged in the Saucier area.

Jackson: Several flooded roads, several homes with flood damage in Moss Point and Pascagoula. One shelter is open in Gautier.

Stone: Several flooded roads.

Detailed damage assessments will be conducted by county officials when weather conditions improve.
