NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Deadlines are approaching for victims of hurricanes Gustav and Ike to register for federal aid.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says Dec. 17 is the registration deadline for Gustav victims who want to apply for temporary rental assistance and grants or loans to repair or replace damaged property. The deadline for Ike victims is Dec. 26.

People affected by both hurricanes must register separately for each disaster.

Residents of 53 Louisiana parishes are eligible to apply for Gustav-related aid. Twenty parishes got the same designation after Ike.
