CISHAN, Taiwan (AP) -- Police say there's no way to know for sure how many people are still buried under the catastrophic mudslide that struck a Taiwan village over the weekend.

Survivors fear that hundreds have been killed in the remote mountain area. But authorities say efforts to pluck out survivors are continuing for a fourth day.

Yesterday, some 120 helicopter flights brought about 300 survivors from the village and surrounding areas.

The community was hit by tons of mud Sunday, after torrential rains were spawned by Typhoon Morakot. The storm unleashed the heaviest flooding Taiwan has seen in 50 years.

Authorities say the typhoon damaged or destroyed more than 10,000 homes and flooded over 1 million acres of cropland.
