Does A Warm Winter = an Active Hurricane Season?

The winter was warm, so should we expect a busy hurricane season? The answer is this: not necessarily. There is no correlation between the winter and the hurricane season. Although the reasons for the warm winter could also mean a busy hurricane season.

For example, La Nina made for a warm winter across the United States. La Nina also would mean a busy hurricane season if it is still in place. The catch is La Nina is expected to fade away. That means it will not be around to influence the upcoming hurricane season.

The latest forecast for the season from the team at Colorado State University is for 12 tropical storms. Of those, seven will become hurricanes and three will become major hurricanes -- category three or stronger. That actually is a calmer season than the previous several. In fact, it's close an average season.
