Hurricane Isaac is approaching the coast of Southeast Louisiana. While the worst weather will be close to the center of the storm, some impacts will be felt for at least part of East Mississippi and West Alabama.

The wind will pick up, especially south of Interstate 20. The outer rainbands of Hurricane Isaac will bring periodic heavy rain and the risk for tornadoes.

Conditions are frequently much worse in springtime thunderstorms in our area, but the prolonged period of increased wind brings the possibilty that trees and power lines could come down in our area.

A Tornado Watch is in effect for East Mississippi and West Alabama counties along and south of Highway 84. In our area this includes Wayne, Jones, and Covington counties in Mississippi and Choctaw and Clarke counties in Alabama. Waynesboro, Laurel, Ellisville, Collins, Butler, Gilbertown, Toxey, Coffeeville, and Grove Hill are included in the Tornado Watch.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Mississippi counties along and south of Highway 16. This includes Lauderdale, Clarke, Covington, Kemper, Neshoba, Newton, Jasper, Jones, Scott, Smith, and Wayne counties.
