Monday Morning Forecast Discussion

While we are in wait for T.S. Isaac, today will actually be a pretty nice day. A typical August day will develop, with high clouds from Isaac working in later on today into this evening. We will be dry and warm as sinking air from the outskirts of Isaac works in over us, keeping us clear as well until this afternoon.

Uncertainty Remains

Now for the million dollar question: where is it going and what can we expect? To be perfectly honest with you, no one has a solid answer to that question. Models are struggling with the strength and intensity of Isaac, so an exact chronological explanation is difficult at this point. I can tell you from my perspective, I think the National Hurricane Center's track is a little too far to the west. Landfall looks, in my eyes, to be closer to the MS/LA border. Either way, it appears we will be on the eastern side of Isaac, which means plenty of rain, some wind, and isolated tornadoes will be possible for everyone.

Local Impacts

Now as for the timing, that again is tricky since the track is not certain, but here is what I am thinking at this moment. Landfall should occur Wednesday morning with Isaac as a category 1 or 2 (perhaps a 3 if it can organize itself better) near Slidell. The storm will then turn more northerly with the center tracking between the Jackson metro and Meridian. We will be on the eastern side, so Wednesday will see winds gusting to tropical and even briefly to hurricane force. Several inches of rain can be expected through the day with isolated tornadoes not out of the question. As the center continues to track north on Thursday, we should see mostly rain and some breezy conditions. Things will quiet down on Friday.
