Tropical Storm Isaac - Tuesday Morning Update

Synopsis

Tropical Storm Isaac is continuing to intensify this morning. The 7am advisory has winds still at 70mph, but the pressure continues to drop, which is a sign of strengthening. We also are seeing on satellite and radar an eye trying to develop. Not helping matters is the fact that Isaac has slowed to moving northwest at 7mph. The slower Isaac moves, the longer it is over open waters, and the stronger it can potentially get.

Isaac is attempting to wrap moisture around to its northern side, which currently is battling dry air, so it would not be a surprise to see Isaac quickly intensify during the day today and just prior to landfall.

Landfall

Isaac is expected to make landfall overnight tonight somewhere in southeast Louisiana as a category 1 hurricane after midnight. The exact location of landfall is still unknown at this point, but looks to be between the mouth of the Mississippi River and the Louisiana/Mississippi border.

Local Conditions

The outer most rainband of Isaac is already working through portions of the viewing area this morning. We will see rainbands work through today, so today is not an all day rain. Rainfall will pick up from south to north tonight into tomorrow. Rainfall will be heavy with the heaviest bands dropping one to two inches of rain or more an hour. As the center moves closer to us and more over land, the threat for tornadoes within stronger storms. Flooding will become a major problem as we work through Wednesday and Thursday. Winds will also be sustained between 15 and 30mph gusting to tropical storm and potentially even hurricane force.

What Do I Need to Do?

Make sure you have your supplies, and if you are missing anything, you will want to get them today prior the heavier bands begin arriving. Also, make sure you stay with us as we will have updates on the air and online as needed.
