Tropical Storm Isaac is strengthening in the central Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Hunters have noted an increase this afternoon in the wind intensity. The central pressure continues to fall, and further intensification is likely as Isaac moves through the central Gulf.

The official forecast track brings Isaac's center inland near or just south of New Orleans late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. On its current forecast track, tropical storm force winds could effect much of our area, especially Mississippi, from Wednesday morning into the overnight hours Wednesday. In fact, tropical storm force winds could be over part of our area for up to 24 hours. We can also expect rainfall amounts of up to 12 inches in some areas along with sporadic tornadoes in East Mississippi and West Alabama. While these conditions are possible across our entire area, the strongest wind and highest likelihood of tornadoes will be over our Mississippi counties.

By Thursday the winds will subside, but scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms could continue as the low pressure remnant of Isaac meanders in the central part of the country. Until that circulation passes northeast of us, scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain a possibility.
