MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - With the 2020 tennis season being cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, Garrett Gaylean wasn’t sure he would get the chance to play tennis at the next level.

Head tennis coach Justin Sollie shared that prior to the season starting, scouts had reached out to him about coming to watch some of Gaylean’s matches, something that was never able to happen. The team was only able to get in four matches before the season was cut short, leaving Gaylean to wonder how he could get his name out there.

With the help of Coach Sollie and others, Gaylean sent film of himself serving and playing to try and garner interest. Gaylean’s dedication to play at the next level landed him an offer from East Central Community College where he signed to play at on Thursday.

“I’ve enjoyed playing tennis at Enterprise,” Gaylean said in a video sent to WTOK. “I’m thankful for the opportunity that Coach Pacelli have given me to continue playing tennis."

When Gaylean was featured on WTOK’s “Senior Spotlight” series in April, Coach Sollie shared what he will miss about having Galyean on the team.

“I’ve known him (Galyean) most of his life. We’ve gone to church together so I’m fortunate that I’ll get to keep seeing him and be around him," Sollie said. "I’m definitely going to miss the impact he made on me and the team...he always had a great attitude, was a hard worker and I’m going to miss that for sure.”
