MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Former Mississippi State and current Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott plans to sign his $31.4 million exclusive franchise tender by Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The franchise tender was placed on the quarterback back in March.

By inking his franchise tender, Prescott is contractually obligated to report to training camp on time and cannot hold out.

Prescott and the Cowboys still have until July 15 to agree on a long-term deal or he will play the 2020 season under the franchise tag.

In May, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms of NBC Sports reported that Prescott had turned down a five-year, $175 million contract offer. While the report generated buzz, it was later debunked by the Cowboys and Prescott’s agent.

Prescott has been the Cowboys’ starter since 2016. Last season, he was second in the league in passing yards with 4,902 and added 30 touchdowns.
