Ward 2 Councilman Dwayne Davis sworn in
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - One week after he won the council seat for Ward 2 in a special election, Dwayne Davis has been sworn in.
Judge Veldore Young conducted the ceremony at Meridian City Hall Wednesday afternoon. With family, friends and city officials attending, Davis raised his hand and took the oath of office.
Davis told the crowd that he wants to be everyone’s friend and will always be there for Meridian. He says he looks forward to working for citizens of the city and his ward.
“If you want to know anything about me all you have to do is ask. I’m upfront, straightforward and I’ll let you know exactly what I mean at the time I mean it,” Davis says.
Davis thanked his wife for supporting him 110 percent. He also thanked God for allowing him to see this day.
“I always put God first in everything I do. If you get to know me, I’m a God-fearing guy. I’m easygoing and easy to get along with,” Davis says.
Former Ward 2 councilman and mayoral candidate Tyrone Johnson was also present for the ceremony.
Davis takes over the Ward 2 spot after Johnson was removed because he no longer lives in the ward. Davis will fulfill the remaining year of the term and says he will run for reelection in 2021.
