People of all ages are welcome to come down to Archusa Creek Water Park in Quitman Friday night for a fireworks show and more.

“I have been here going on 29 years and we’ve had [the show] ever since I’ve been here. It’s always an enjoyable time for people coming in and out,” says Gail Buffington, the secretary at Archusa Creek Water Park. “We have a band, the Rascoe- Thomas Band is playing this year from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. We are having a boat parade at 8 p.m., the Quitman Fire Department comes and sells sno-balls and grills burgers, sausage dogs, stuff like that. Then the fireworks begin at 9 p.m.”

The money spent on food from the Quitman Fire Department goes to the department.

“Last year we had around 1000 people or more, we have a big turnout every year,” Buffington says. “It’s something they look forward to every year.”

The event costs $10 per vehicle.

“It’s always enjoyable, it gives the kids something to do, they always enjoy it,” Buffington says. “It’s beautiful. Every year is gets better and better.”

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, park staff is urging visitors to exercise caution.

“Just be careful. If you want to wear your mask, you’re welcome to wear your mask, that’s just strictly up to you,” Buffington explains.

Archusa Creek Water Park is located on Clarke County Road 110 right off State Highway 511.
