DECATUR, Miss. (WTOK) - Brent Gregory has come home. The native of Nanih Waiya and 1996 graduate of East Central has achieved his career goal of becoming president of his junior college alma mater. He succeeds Dr. Billy Stewart, who retired after eight years in Decatur.

“East Central Community College is a special place,” said Gregory. “The conversations I’ve had with individuals as I’ve been getting ready to start this position, the word home comes up over and over with our former students, faculty and staff.”

Dr. Gregory says his plan over the next year is to reach out to the school’s various constituents in the five-county district, along with faculty, staff, students and various industries to help develop a comprehensive plan to lead the school into the future.

“Over the course of this next year, we will be out in our community developing that plan. Dr. Stewart did a great job developing that 2020 Vision. It’s our duty now to move to that next step.”

Dr. Gregory, who has spent the last two decades as an educator, says his job, and the job of the school, is really pretty simple.

“Obviously we’ve got great academics. We’ve done a great job in workforce training and development and career technical programs. But the most important thing that we do that makes us special is the fact that we care about our students. We care about the individuals that work at this institution and we’re going to continue to do so
